About Dayton Ballet School

Dayton Ballet School is dedicated to providing the opportunity to experience and appreciate dance for people of all ages and abilities. We embrace the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance's belief that the arts are for everyone, and we take pride in the fact that many of our students have not only gone on to become ballet professionals (dancers, costume designers, choreographers, and teachers) but also as business and community leaders that advocate and appreciate the arts.

We Have a History...

icon-founders

Founded by Josephine and Hermene Schwarz in 1927

The oldest ballet school in Dayton and among the oldest ballet schools in the United States

Pre-professional company founded by Miss Jo in 1948.

The only dance school in the Miami Valley associated with a professional dance company

Josephine Schwarz, referred to as Miss Jo, asked that we continue the tradition established by her and Miss Hermene of “offering the highest quality dance training to professionals and non-professionals alike.”

Dayton Ballet boasts spacious dedicated dance studios, with three studios occupying the fourth floor of the historic Victoria Theatre.

Marley floors, mirrored wall, and miles of barre ensure that there is plenty of space to move and grow as a dancer. There is plenty of parking all around and the entrance is secure for the safety of your dancers.
